Before beginning my current venture I enjoyed a successful and interesting career in senior management with several major corporations including:
• National Manager of Market Leasing, GE Medical Systems • Midwest Regional Manager, Litton Industries Credit Corporation (LICC) • Southern Regional Manager, Pitney Bowes Credit Corporation (PBCC) • VP Marketing, ITT Financial, EFL Group • President and Chairman, Midwestern Banco • CFO, LSI Inc. • National Marketing Director, Deutch Credit Corporation
In addition, I have owned and managed several retail service businesses in the financial, hospitality, and entertainment industries. These included two community banks where I served as president, a mortgage company, an insurance agency, three restaurants, a bed and breakfast establishment, and a movie theatre.
During this time I also served in a number of high level government positions. I was appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin as Commissioner to the Great Lakes Compact Commission, the Wisconsin Waterways Commission, and as Director of the Wisconsin Main Street Program. I was Chairman of the Northwest Region Revolving Loan Fund as well as Founding Director/Chairman of the Washburn County Revolving Loan Fund. Additionally, I was elected to the Mt. Scenario College Board of Trustees, several corporate boards, and the Governors’ Business Council.
After obtaining my bachelor’s degree I completed post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin’s Graduate School of Banking. Other studies include Dale Carnegie Management Training, Securities Licenses 63 and 7, Real Estate Licensing, and Insurance Licensing. I also completed several courses in sales, marketing, financial planning, and a doctorate level course on Financial Planning for Individuals and Company Portfolios. My education also includes many graduate level professional programs such as Effective Cash Management by GE, Robotics and CAD, CAM, and GE Management Problem Analysis.
My service to our country was in the Navy working as an Electronic Intelligence Specialist. I graduated from Class “A” School in Pensacola, FL and then was assigned to Central America. I received an honorable discharge in 1973 after serving six years.
Last but not least, I am a proud graduate of the proverbial “School of Hard Knocks,” with plenty of anecdotes to back up my degree.
Over the years I have been a part of many interesting and often unique ventures, including:
• Establishing a county Revolving Loan Fund to encourage and facilitate business development • Providing financing for the first Wendy’s expansion in 1974 • Developing and implementing a new sales finance and leasing program for GE Medical Systems and being named a member of the National Account Sales Team • Leading a community group in developing a Transportation Authority to save local rail transportation while providing for a Tourist Train Enterprise • Contributing as founding member and key participant on a community team who successfully transformed a small Georgia mountain town into an Alpine Village • Participating on the initial management team to establish PBCC as a premier provider of Sales and Lease financing.
My experience includes written and in-person presentations to PBCC, Wisconsin International Trade and Development Conference, St. John’s Medical Center, University of Minnesota Medical School, GE Medical Systems, Textron Financial, and many others. Publications include Field Sales and Marketing Manuals, Sales/Marketing Training Manuals, Medical Equipment Finance and Lease Alternatives, National Radiology Association article, and Finance and Investment Alternatives article.
I was recognized as Community Business Person of the Year, nominated as state Banker of the Year, twice awarded Sales Manager of the Year, and have received numerous appreciations and commendations for both business and community service. I am currently or have been in the past a member of Financial Executives International, Toastmasters, WIBCA (as Director), National Association of Financial Planners, AMA Presidents Associations, AAEL, Young Presidents Club, IBCA, Wisconsin Council for Economic Development, International Trade and Business Development Council (as Director), and several sales and marketing organizations.
My profession has required knowledge and proficiency in the areas of general management, sales and marketing, HR, and investment management/finance. Specifically, these skills include investment portfolio management, project and business finance, value selling, and pricing structure. Moreover, actively managing, teaching, and working closely on a day-to-day basis with a wide variety of individuals has provided me with a unique understanding of people’s diverse needs and challenges.
My life has been rich with abundant opportunities for growth. It overflows with valuable learning experiences that inform not only my professional career but my spiritual being as well.
